TODAY: JRCC Furniture Depot Helps Five Refugees Families Furnish Their Homes

TORONTO TODAY – The Syrian refugee crisis has captivated the conscience of Canadians from coast-to-coast. Many communities have stepped up to help those arriving from their war-torn homeland. The Jewish Russian Community Centre (JRCC) Furniture Depot, in collaboration with the Armenian community, are collaborating to provide recently arrived refugees with furniture and other household items to help them settle into a new home.

The kick off the campaign to help these refugees was launched today, Jan 11 by inviting five families (2 from York Region & 3 from Toronto) to come to the Furniture Depot and select furniture today from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. the families were able to choose furniture items such as mattress, beds, tables, and chairs, out of a variety of thousands of furniture items. The furniture will be delivered to the clients’ homes by the JRCC Furniture Depot truck.

We would like extend our gratitude to the Hon. Peter Kent (PC MP Thornhill) for his support and solidarity to make this project a great success.

We are happy to help those in need, and help refugees in establishing their new life; by giving them furniture – a bed to sleep in, and a table and chairs to enjoy family dinners together. Our community believes in values of giving and helping those in need; and today we are glad to be able to serve our community as well as the newly arrived refugees.
