What we do. JRCC Furniture Depot Blog Post #2

JRCC Furniture Depot Blog Post #2:

A lot has changed since 1985 when the JRCC Furniture Depot started as a service connecting those who wanted to donate their furniture with those who needed it. We are proud to say, the JRCC furniture depot services all clients regardless of their race, religion or color! We are proud to service the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and help those in need of a basic living necessity- furniture. Having a bed to sleep, a chair to sit and a table to eat is essential to have for anyone seeking to improve their lives- and we want to have a part in helping them!

In 2017, 90% of clients served were below the poverty line, 60% were newcomers to Canada, 60% had minor children and 20% were transitioning from shelters! Those donating their furniture to the JRCC furniture depot can have peace of mind knowing that their furniture will make a difference in someone’s life. A difference which will improve the lives of others, a difference which will affect the entire GTA for the better.

Just walking through our warehouse can show why are clients come here. Mattresses, dressers, tables, chairs and couches- the basics in any home – are what we provide for clients. Most of the time, when a client is referred to the JRCC Furniture Depot, the first thing taken is a mattress. By helping those without furniture furnish their homes, we can help them have the peace of mind knowing that they have a place to put their head down.

While a client’s issues may be vast- the JRCC Furniture depot prides itself in helping one- furnish their homes. But we can’t do it without our donor’s help! For all inquires regarding furniture donation, please call 416-222-7105 ext. 248

JRCC Furniture Depot BLOG POST #1- Who We Are

The JRCC Furniture Depot is a service provided to help those with limited means to furnish their homes. Since it’s founding in 1985 as a humble community service making connections between people who wanted to donate their furniture with people who needed it, the JRCC Furniture depot has expanded to become a central community service which helps those in need furnish their home and picks up furniture from those donors!

Fast forward to 2017- the JRCC Furniture Depot has become a community service which has had partnerships from more than 60 referral agencies and has been working with over 200 case workers to help service York Region better- and is still growing! In 2017 alone we helped 2,250 clients and gave away 5,902 furniture items!!

Aside from servicing a large volume of clients in need at the JRCC Furniture depot- we believe that every client deserves respect and confidentiality when they come to us in their time of need. In fact, our evaluation data from 2017 shows that for client satisfaction we scored 3.8 out of 4! In addition to assuring satisfaction with our clients, we work hard to make our donors happy! Our 2017 evaluation data revealed that we scored 3.9 out of 4 for Donor satisfaction!

While these numbers are great, we are always trying to help more in need of furniture and are always looking for furniture to help furnish more homes! If you are interested in donating your gently used furniture, don’t hesitate to call us up at 416-222-7105 ext. 248. If you are in need furniture, have your social service refer you to us and we would love to help!

We are always looking to cooperate with furniture companies for furniture donations. Please feel free to email us at: furniture@jrcc.org

Happy Family Day

JRCC Furniture Depot has served over 650 families in 2015, assisting them in furnishing their homes. Most of the families have experienced an unsafe situation where they were sleeping on the floor, and did not have a dining table or chairs to sit on. The JRCC Furniture Depot is giving furniture FOR FREE to families in need.

We expect to grow the number of client who will be served in 2016 – your generous furniture and funds donations help us to do this.

We wish all of you – a happy family day!

TODAY: JRCC Furniture Depot Helps Five Refugees Families Furnish Their Homes

TORONTO TODAY – The Syrian refugee crisis has captivated the conscience of Canadians from coast-to-coast. Many communities have stepped up to help those arriving from their war-torn homeland. The Jewish Russian Community Centre (JRCC) Furniture Depot, in collaboration with the Armenian community, are collaborating to provide recently arrived refugees with furniture and other household items to help them settle into a new home.

The kick off the campaign to help these refugees was launched today, Jan 11 by inviting five families (2 from York Region & 3 from Toronto) to come to the Furniture Depot and select furniture today from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. the families were able to choose furniture items such as mattress, beds, tables, and chairs, out of a variety of thousands of furniture items. The furniture will be delivered to the clients’ homes by the JRCC Furniture Depot truck.

We would like extend our gratitude to the Hon. Peter Kent (PC MP Thornhill) for his support and solidarity to make this project a great success.

We are happy to help those in need, and help refugees in establishing their new life; by giving them furniture – a bed to sleep in, and a table and chairs to enjoy family dinners together. Our community believes in values of giving and helping those in need; and today we are glad to be able to serve our community as well as the newly arrived refugees.
